1 Corinthians 1:21

"For seeing that in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom knew not God, it was God's good pleasure through the foolishness of the preaching to save them that believe. "

The wisdom of the world is 'foolish'. According to verse 30, God gives us His wisdom through Jesus Christ. God has chosen you --even with all your inadequacies -- so He might display His wisdom, His righteousness, His sanctification and His redemption through you.

Proverbs 2:1-5

"My son, if thou wilt receive my words, And lay up my commandments with thee; So as to incline thine ear unto wisdom, And apply thy heart to understanding; Yea, if thou cry after discernment, And lift up thy voice for understanding; If thou seek her as silver, And search for her as for hid treasures: Then shalt thou understand the fear of Jehovah, And find the knowledge of God. "

Wisdom is depicted as a woman who lifts her voice and shouts in the street calling to the naive ones to turn and listen to her. She will pour out the spirit of wisdom on all who listen to her. When wisdom is ignored "calamity comes on like a whirlwind." The knowledge of God comes when we receive wisdom and "treasure His commandments within us."

Proverbs 1:22-23

"How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? And scoffers delight them in scoffing, And fools hate knowledge? Turn you at my reproof: Behold, I will pour out my spirit upon you; I will make known my words unto you. "

Proverbs 1:7

"The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of knowledge; (But) the foolish despise wisdom and instruction."

The prerequisite for "wisdom" is the fear of the Lord. This fear means to reverance of God, to show Him honor and to demonstrate respect. Before we can begin the journey of gaining wisdom, we first must bow our hearts before God in humble submission. A proud and haughty spirit cannot receive wisdom.

Wisdom is more than gaining information through the intellect. "Hakam" is one of the Hebrew words translated "wisdom" in English. It does not mean the gathering of information. The idea behind this word is to master the art of living according to God's expectations. To be wise is a process of using God's Word as a guide for daily life decisions.

Wisdom is available to you. You must desire it. You must seek it. If you cry out for wisdom from the Lord. He will give you the desires of your heart.

Proverbs 31:26

"She opens her mouth in wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue."

This passage of Scripture is a picture of what a woman looks like after a lifetime of God's work in her life. It is not an instant process. But if you give God permission to mold and shape you according to His plan, slowly but surely you will emerge as a woman who looks very much like the portrait in Proverbs 31.

This passage is not in the Bible to intimidate us and make us feel like we must achieve this standard. The good news of Jesus is that He came to achieve this standard for us. You don't have to try to be a and do everything in Proverbs 31. You only need to submit to the Father, and let Him change you from the inside out. Then your life will begin to match the image of the godly woman found in this Proverb.

Psalm 51:5

Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity; And in sin did my mother conceive me.

David recognized that he was nothing more than a meare man shaped in iniquity and conceived in sin. He, just like you and me, had sin as a legacy and needed the redemption of God's grace extended to Him. So any good thing God saw in David's heart was only there as a result of David's response to God's work in him. God's electing us for His specific purposes rests on how we respond to His love and work in us by His Spirit.

2 Chronicles 16:9

"For the eyes of Jehovah run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly; for from henceforth thou shalt have wars."

God is still looking for men and women whose hearts will reflect His passions. He has a divine search party going. He is seeking "to show Himself strong for those whose hearts are completely His." I sure want to see God in my everyday living, dont you? He desires and delights to make Himself known, but He desires first to find someone in whom He sees a holy boldness by His Spirit to live fully committed and passionately for Him like David did.

The public anointing of David as King of Israel was the outcome of what had taken place in private between david and God long before. David was anointed for his great service and his ministry as Israel's king because God, who discerns the hearts of all men, knew that David's heart was different from others. He had a prepared heart. We can learn much from how David's heart became prepared to so attract God's attention.

1 Peter 1:2

"according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace be multiplied."

God's foreknowledge is part of election. We absolutely cannot think that we control God's sovereign choices, but part of the reason God chooses who He does is because He knows the end from the beginning.

Acts 13:22

"And when he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king; to whom also he bare witness and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My heart, who shall do all My will. "

God selected David to accomplish His purposes because God knew taht David woudl do as He asks.

John 15:16

"You did not choose Me, but I chose you."

God chose you! Let that sink in...GOD chose you. You may have been turned down by your boss, rejected by your spouse, ignored by your parents, looked over by your friends, or refused by your children; but you can rest int eh loving arms of God.

If you are a believer, you are one of the elect. Election means simply to choose. It designates the glorious fact that God chooses us, so our confidence rests not in our faithfulness but in His.

I Chronicles 13:3

and let us bring again the ark of our God to us: for we sought not unto it in the days of Saul.

For 100 years the ark had been missing. The ark represents God's presence (Exodus 25). David said, "If I am going to be king I need God's presence." Davids first mission as king was to bring back the ark of God, which represented the presence of God.

I Chronicles 14:8

And when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David: and David heard of it, and went out against them.

The anointing is "a divine enabling or a divine empowerment to accomplish God's purposes for your life." David was anointed at 15 and 22 years later at age 37 David became King.

If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, the anointing of God rests on your life. The Holy Spirit is that anointing. All the power, all the glolry is in you.

Psalm 119:90

Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: Thou hast established the earth, and it abideth.

The word "established" is the same word used in Psalm 119:90 to talk about how the Lord established the earth or founded the earth. The earth is tilted at just the right degree for life. This same power I established the earth is the same I use in you, David.

I Chronicles 14:2

And David realized that the LORD had established him as king over Israel, [and] that his kingdom was highly exalted, for the sake of His people Israel.

This verse tells us that David knew whose he was and he knew who he was.
